Pitchfork's Add Violence Review

The Slip comes packed with an exclusive, really exciting PDF file containing exclusive, really exciting artwork. If you've always felt like Nine Inch Nails album art made too much sense, you're in luck today! This time, we've got a blurry photo of Trent enjoying a perfectly heterosexual massage from some guy with hairy arms for the "cover," and some intriguing images of various assorted symbols and scribbles that I'm sure hold some extremely deep meaning to Trent and no one else on earth. Okay! Now, there's one little thing I want to address before trying my damnedest to forever purge the mental image of Trent getting a massage from my mind. Turn with me, if you will, to page 13 of the PDF. Come on, quit being a little bitch and just do it.

"Demon Seed" was one of the last songs written for the record. All through 1999, Eminem had been scribbling lyrics—not actual lines, just two or three words, little scraps of meter and verse unarrayed on a page—while on a world tour supporting his debut. Verses began to blacken notebooks after had found inspiration in the deregulated drug culture of Amsterdam, so much so that he almost named this album after the city. Meanwhile, over in the States, Dr. Dre and several other producers, including the Funky Bass Team and the 45 King, were assembling the beats for what would become the bulk of The Marshall Mathers LP.

Was Kafquaesque Kafquaesque?

Don't think so IMO. It wasn't one of the high action episodes, but it did have some great dialogue scenes.

Cold Open - The story of Los Pollos Hermanos (and production of blue meth), put to music, ending with the silhouette of Gus.

Jesse - Does math correctly, adding up to $96 Million Dollars.

Saul - Explains the art of money laundering to Jesse at the nail salon ("So you want me to buy this place...so I can pay taxes...I'm a criminal, yo.").

Walt - Accurately lays out the happenings behind "One Minute" to Gus.

Badger & Pete - Make there appearance at the rehab center to hook members on blue meth...though they're the one's who eventually get hooked on the rehab (still in the 12 step program?).

Skyler - Tells Marie the story of Walt's gambling and offers to pay Hank's bills. Cranston is great in this scene - totally captivated by the story - impressed at how well Skyler can now lie.

Not a highly discussed episode, but another solid one - not at all Kafquaesque.
