"Comedian in cars getting coffee"
The similiarity between great car design and great comedy is when you have a joke is that it has to be the exact perfect words each one in the exact right place, or else it just doesn't work"
And it struck me as that seems a bit strange to say as the opening thing about comedy on on the beginning episode of the series. I understand the importance and sentiment for jokes to hit, you can't use words that wouldn't make it funny.
But on a deeper level i just thought, a word is essentially jibberish if it doesn't have a meaning a definition and a joke relies on the innate funny, meaning of the joke. When someone comes up with a joke, they didn't intentionally go for exact word placement first they were ingeniously funny, they just said something funny.. and they thought well here is the joke i created and i want to express this in standup again.
Now i get if it is a technical joke that requires word play and such then yes, word placement is very important and really a lot of jokes doesnt have to be technical... but to think or associate great comedians as mostly being so, with out mentioning the substance seems to come up short, we wouldn't listen to a parrot or a robot that can nail funny jokes with great word placement.. all in all i think great comedians have a lot more substance than just good word placement, word placement is a must in a lot of jokes but isnt the nature or signifies the collective art form of great comedians/comedy
