Section One: Assets and Debt
Retirement Balance - none. My husband's work doesn’t currently offer a retirement plan. I honestly wasn’t even really aware of this up until recently from reading money diaries, so once we make a dent in paying off debt we will figure out about setting something up. I'll admit I haven't always been great with money and finances
Equity if you're a homeowner - lol yeah right
Savings account balance - $2200
Checking account balance - $7,250
Credit card debt - We have 6 cards between the two of us. Two cards don’t carry a balance (paid in full each month). Two cards are bank credit cards that we each opened before getting married. We use cards for specific purchases to max out points and cash back. $1,075 on card 1, $3,840 on card 2, $3,166 on card 3, $3,260 on card 4. So a grand total of $11,341 which we are aggressively trying to pay down. When I started freelancing I didn't do a good job changing my spending habits, and between that and medical bills I unfortunately racked up a good deal of credit card debt. It's been hard to go from paying cards off in full to managing debt.
Student loan debt - none. both myself and my husband attended technical college for two year degrees in the multimedia design fields. His was fully covered by a scholarship and my parents helped with mine.
Section Two: IncomeMy monthly income - varies depending on how much I work per month, but lately its been around $1350/month. Taxes are not taken out of my paycheck since I freelance, but I pay them during tax season (since we file jointly I didn’t actually end up owing anything last year as a portion of the taxes we got back went to pay for mine.)Husbands monthly income (after insurance/taxes) - $5088.06 (paid biweekly so some months he gets paid 3 times and then makes more)
Section Three: Expenses
Rent - $2,328 for a 2 bed/2bath apartment (includes $90 pet rent). I live with my husband T, son S and two kitties.
Renters insurance - $55
Health Insurance - $348.22 for health insurance for the three of us + dental and vision for my husband and son. This comes directly out of my husbands paycheck.
Savings contribution - cash back from credit cards ($100 last month) . We’re trying to focus on paying down debt first
Debt payments - I took out a $10k loan to pay off a high interest card a few months ago. Right now I’m paying $330/month for the loan. (I achieved 0 balance on that card then stupidly put the car down payment on it since it has the highest credit limit of all the cards). We pay as much as we can on each card every month, usually $500-1000.
Donations - none. I’m not a jerk though, if I see someone collecting money at the grocery store I’ll donate a few dollars depending on the legitimacy of the cause (sorry but I have to be careful)
Electric - $60-$250 depending on time of year. Last months bill was $250 (sobs and turns up the ac to 80)
Gas - $23
Water/Trash - $84
Wifi - $50
Cellphone - $125 ($100 plan + $25 for my phone)
Netflix - $12.99
Hulu - $5.99
HBO Now - I think it’s bundled with Amazon Prime, I honestly can’t find the price or info anywhere but pretty sure $14.99
Adobe Creative Cloud - $52.99
iCloud - $2.99
Spotify - $14.99 family plan
Pet expenses - $43 for prescription cat food for one of our cats
Car payment - $249
Car insurance - $148.77
Disneyland Annual Passport - $53.75 (this is just for our son. My husband and I were gifted passes earlier this year. Tbh v annoyed that I have to pay full price for a kid who can’t ride half the rides)
Yearly expenses
Amazon Prime - $119
Costco - $120
Tone It Up - $86
Day 1:
6:50 - I’m woken up by our son S (who snuck into bed with us last night) telling me its time to get up. Nope too early kiddo! I put him back in his bed with some toys and go back to sleep.
8:20 - Alarm goes off and I drag myself out of bed. Looks like S found his kindle after I fell back asleep and was watching some videos. Ugh mom fail. My husband T hops in the shower and I start breakfast jk I microwave some oatmeal and throw some raspberries and bananas on it. I also pour myself some cold brew and add snickerdoodle oat milk creamer. S refuses to eat the oatmeal so he has a granola bar with his fruit.
9:15 - T is off to work and S and I play grocery store and coffee shop. I live for these moments!
10:15 - The company I freelance for starts at 10 so even though my hours are flexible I always carve out some time around 10 to go over tasks for the day and check in with the team on slack. We were on vacation the past few days so I catch up on everything and see that I still haven’t received feedback on the project I’m working on. I send some slacks to my project manager then scroll social media and read some money diaries while S plays.
11 - I still haven’t received any feedback so I debate going for a run but its already almost 90. I’ll workout later. Instead I play in the bath with S then shower. Yeah probably not going to workout later. Even though I’m at home most of the time, getting ready helps me feel like more of a person so I usually do my makeup and get dressed in something other than workout clothes. Today I throw on a madewell v neck and a pair of denim shorts and do my everyday skin care and makeup routine (sunscreen primer I found on amazon, l’oreal concealer, it cosmetics BB cream, maybelline brow powder, Smashbox contour, Becca highlight, Anastasia eyeshadow and l’oreal mascara). I know it seems like a lot but I am self conscious about my skin and I like doing my makeup Also been trying to find drugstore dupes for my favorite pricier products, the mascara is just like Too Faced mascara but a fraction of the price!
11:30 - T texts and asks me to order a sun shade for our car. I pick out a cool Star Wars one on Amazon and also get some cute sunglasses to replace my favorite pair that broke last week. I check cash back coupon sites before I order and find a 5% cash back offer for the sunglasses, hopefully it works with the sun shade in the same transaction! - $29.85
12:10 - S helps me get a load of laundry going, he really loves getting to help with chores! We spent the past 8 years or so without in unit laundry and even though we’ve been here a year now I still get excited about doing laundry. Not the putting away part though!
12:30 - Sit down to get some more work done on this website. S makes a huge mess (though this room is already a total disaster) so I give in and let him watch some educational youtube videos while I work. I snack on a perfect bar and S finishes his banana and has some cheddar bunnies.
12:50 - Move the laundry and start another load with the help of S. What an exciting life I have! Laundry for days! Never ending chores!
1:50 - I hit a good stopping point and break for lunch. S made an art project for me (all his art supplies in a pile) and is very proud of his creation/mess. I’ll get to that after lunch and the laundry. Maybe.
2 - We eat lunch - pbj for S and leftovers chicken and potatoes for me, then after throwing in some more laundry we head out for a walk along the neighborhood trail. We don’t last too long since its hot and S gets tired and wants me to carry him. Carrying a three year old around the block totally counts as a workout right?
3:50 - More laundry (this is the fourth load but our washer and dryer are kind of small) then back to work. The project manager is too busy to review today but that gives me time to polish things up. I’m very thankful for all the hours I’m putting in on this site but kind of ready for this project to be over. I have some other ideas I want to pitch for this company and would love to change up my workload a bit.
5 - Well so much for a productive afternoon. I was interrupted by a dental office calling about an appt for S that I didn’t make, then I got notification from the bank that my credit card was frozen due to fraud (thankfully it wasn’t actually fraud, I had signed up for a trial of Shipt and they tried charging my card several times without notifying me. Never trust a company that doesn’t allow you to cancel or delete an account online ugh). Then I thought S was playing play-doh quietly and he was actually napping which would be great if it wasn’t so late. Fingers crossed bedtime isn’t a disaster. I need some wine.
5:30 - T texts saying he’ll be working late and will be eating at the office. I decide to call it a day and try to wake up S without causing a total meltdown.
5:45 - S is so adamant about staying asleep so I say screw it, pour some wine and watch an episode of The Hills while painting my nails. I’ll pay for this later, but in the meantime some quiet time is really nice.
6:30 - Finally get S up and make some dinner. Since husband is working late and I don’t feel like cooking I heat up a tamale from TJ’s and make some organic pizza bagels for S. He requests a smoothie too so I make us a berry kale pb oat milk smoothie to split. We eat, play, feed the kitties, watch his favorite show and then get ready for bed.
8:30 T calls letting me know he’s finally heading home. He stops for gas on the way back. - $41
9:15 - T is finally home yay! We hang out as a family for a bit, try to get S to bed at a reasonable time (damn you naps), watch some Evangelion on Netflix, play video games together (nerdy and proud), watch more Evangelion and head to bed around 1 after doing my night time skin care routine - soap and glory vitamin c facial wash, pixi toner, The Ordinary retinol, niacinamide and salicylic acid, The Inkey List eye cream and Bliss ex-glow-sion moisturizer.
Total - $70.85
Day 2
8:30 - Snooze the alarms twice then drag myself out of bed. S joined us again in the middle of the night and one of the cats slept on top of my legs so I am soreeee. At least its Friday! And I prepped overnight oats last night so no scrambling to make breakfast. I pour myself some cold brew with plain oat milk creamer (tbh better than the snickerdoodle one) and wash some raspberries to mix into the oats. S is still sleeping since he went to bed kind of late, so I get a nice breakfast with my husband before he has to head to work and probably work late again.
10 - S is still sleeping! I should probably wake him soon so bedtime tonight isn’t another mess. It’s so much better to let him wake up on his own though so I get dressed and ready. I want to go for a run once S is up so I put on some workout shorts and a t-shirt that are both grey and look slightly ridiculous. No makeup today, just sunscreen.
10:15 - I’ve been meaning to sign up for Hello Fresh since getting a coupon for a bunch of free meals last week. We did Blue Apron years ago and it was really fun and delicious but cooking with a newborn was difficult. Is it just me or does it take like double the amount of times recipes say to cut and prep ingredients? The meal selections look fantastic so I sign up and use the coupon. - $23.94
10:30 - I remember to schedule the electric bill payment due next week, ugh its so high this month from using the ac and being home every day. Then I make sure our mail is still forwarding to our address, we moved a year ago and still occasionally get mail addressed to our old address. I haven’t heard anything back about the work project I’m on so I’ll take it a little easier today and schedule a review next week.
10:45 - S is finally up. I make him some chicken sausages and raspberries for breakfast. He’s kind of picky and doesn’t like to eat first thing after waking up (how is he my kid lol).
11:40 - I clean the litterbox and bathroom then we finally head out for our run. S asks to go to the park so we run to a nearby park and play for a while. We have the whole park to ourselves!
1:50 - Finally home and we’re starving! We make some avocado toast with the most difficult to mash avocado ever but its worth it and delish and it wouldn’t be a money diary without a mention of TJ’s Everything But the Bagel Seasoning, which we sprinkle all over our toast. We also open some amazon packages that arrived while we were at the park. The car sun shield I ordered yesterday shipped so quick wow! I also got a pair of Steve Madden sandals. I had ordered them in a different color and size from Macys with a gift card and they were too small and sold out of the size I needed to exchange for. Luckily Amazon had them for the same price, couldn’t get the same color but they are just as cute. I’m just really salty about the $10 shipping I wasted at Macy’s since they won’t refund shipping.
2:40 - I grab a kombucha (GT’s summer edition best flavor everrr) from the fridge and head to the “office” to be productive. We turned our second bedroom into an office/playroom since the master bedrooms big enough for both beds. Since S doesn’t nap regularly anymore he has quiet time where he can either play nicely by himself or watch something. He almost always chooses to watch something.
2:45 - Just remembered that I needed to set up autopay for our new car lease so I take care of that before getting started on work. Ok and now I’m distracted so might as well scroll instagram for a minute
6:00 - And that’s a wrap on work for the week! S did a good job of not making too big of a mess or having too much screen time while I worked. I often feel like I’m not a good mom when I’m working because I can’t stop and play with him every 5 minutes, and I feel really guilty letting him have screen time. We’re hoping to get him into preschool soon because he love being around kids and needs more socialization.
7 - T is working late again and I don’t feel like cooking so leftovers and frozen food it is. I promise we usually eat so much better I’m just tired. S has leftover pizza bagels, fruits and veggies and I was some veggie enchilada bowl I found buried in the freezer. And some wine. We watch some trailers from D23 (did Lady and the Tramp make anyone else cry? Just me? Also can I be as cool as Jeff Goldblum when I grow up?) and play until bedtime
10:15 - I’ve been trying to get S to stay in bed for like an hour but he really wants to see daddy because he was asleep when he left for work. T finally gets home shortly after S falls asleep. He brought me a sandwich too! We watch the final episode of Legion (what a show! Can’t believe its over!) then have sex and then I pass out on the couch and drag myself into bed around 1:30.
Total - $23.94
Day 311 - We all sleep in! The breakfast selection here is looking pretty sad so we order from our favorite local diner. Nothin like some pancakes and bacon to kick off the weekend! Plus the portions are so big that we can share with S and have leftovers. - $34.54
12 - I clean the kitchen while T plays pretend with S, then T and I play video games together (Elder Scrolls Online, I’m an even bigger nerd than you thought) while S plays with play doh and colors. On the wall. Thank goodness for magic erasers!
1:30 - And now like every single weekend we reach the part of the day where we have absolutely no idea what we should do. But we do know we should get out of the house and do something fun with S. We decide to figure it out as we drive and hop in the car to get coffee. Well I’m actually the only one getting coffee, T quit drinking it a few months ago. We go to a nearby drive up coffee bar and I get a horchata cold brew. - $5.90
2 - S’s been begging to go to the mall so we head over there with no intention of spending any money. Famous last words. We hit up the Disney store and get S two pairs of new pjs, a jacket and a water bottle ($80.95). Then I just have to stop into Bath and Body Works to smell the fall candles and end up buying two candles and a soap because they’re on sale plus I had a $10 off coupon! ($24.09). Before we leave we treat S to “ice cream” at Menchies ($5.40) - $110.44
4:30 - As we’re leaving T texts his mom to see if she’s available to watch S tonight or tomorrow night so we can have a date night. I honestly can’t remember the last time we’ve had one! She responds saying she’s available tonight and will head over soon. I spend some time cleaning up the office/playroom before she arrives, then we all hangout and catch up for a bit before T and I leave for our date night.
7 - I am hilariousy overdressed for this place but dang the food and drinks are great and the quality time with T is even better! We talk about going on a day trip to Santa Barbara tomorrow and if we should plan a vacation around thanksgiving or before the holidays. ($64.40) Afterwards we stop by Target for garbage bags and get a sweater and t shirt for myself, gelato, ginger beer and pumpkin pancake mix. We totally forget the garbage bags and I made us search the entire clothes section for a specific shirt but we had a great time ($48.63) - $113.03
9:30 - We get home, put S to sleep, play some video games then watch Evangelion while eating ice cream. I also order that t shirt I was looking for earlier at Target and a cute halloween decoration. I LOVE Halloween. I know I need to be better about budgeting but aside from my earlier purchases today, it’s been a while since I’ve gotten anything more than coffee for myself. - $36.64
12:30 - Nighttime routine then head to bed.
Total - $300.55
Day 4
9:10 - Wake up and decide to follow through with our day trip to Santa Barbara! We eat the leftovers from yesterday’s breakfast then get ready to hit the road.
11:30 - Despite our best attempts it takes like 2 hours for us to get ready. We also decide to take S to the kids museum there so we purchase tickets online before leaving - $41.95
1- Arrive in Santa Barbara! We park in a fairly central location so we can walk everywhere we want. And for once we pay for all day parking so one of us doesn’t have to run back to the car pay for more time like we almost always do - $12
3 -The museum was a total hit with S! So much fun watching him run around and explore everything. We’re starving so we scroll yelp for lunch options and settle on a casual brewery bistro that says its kid friendly. I am very self conscious of taking a wild 3 year old to wineries and nicer restaurants (the last thing I want to do is be judged for my kid throwing a fit or ruin someones nice time) so we make an effort to only go places that either say they are kid friendly or are causal and loud. Definitely a bit harder to go out with a toddler but we make it work! T orders a hard kombucha and a chicken sandwich and I get a glass of rosé and a grilled cheese to share with S. HOLY CRAP these sandwiches are amazing. - $49.45
3:40 - A while back I found a coffee shop on Instagram that I just have to try, and since we didn’t get a chance to visit it last time we were here I insist on walking over there after lunch. It’s a longer walk than I anticipated but it’s such a beautiful town and it sure beats having to find parking again. We finally make it to the coffee shop and it is SO WORTH THE WALK AND THE PRICE. OMG I want to move in. T gets an iced matcha and I get a cold brew with pomegranate syrup and they are both so delish and so insta worthy. - $17.50
4:15 - We start walking to the beach and instantly need to pee. I remember passing a cute winery/brewery on our way to the coffee shop so we stop in there to use the restrooms and grab a glass of wine. Bonus they have an outdoor patio and there’s hardly anyone there so I don’t feel awkward about letting S run around the patio. I get a glass of Pinot Noir and it is soo good I now regret not getting a bottle to bring home. I also tip 20% because the lady was so nice and accommodating - $17.56
4:45 - Almost to the beach when S starts begging for an ice cream. The line at McConnells is probably an hour long so we go to a soft serve spot and get him a coconut soft serve. - $5.15
5 - Finally make it to the beach where we relax and play in the sand and water until we are tired and very sandy!
6:30 - All that beach time has made us really hungry! We pick out a nearby restaurant and add ourselves to the waitlist on Yelp as we walk over. The food here is sooo good, we can’t decide what to order so get a couple different appetizers (a large pretzel to split, Brussels, poké tacos and chicken and waffle slider), S gets a kids meal with pizza and berries and T and I get drinks (2x old fashioned for him, 2x Pinot Noir for me). This is definitely going to be our new go to when we visit! We definitely spent more on this spontaneous weekend trip then planned, but busy season is starting for my husband and he’s already been working late nights with lots more in the future so this has been a nice little end of summer treat for us before its late nights and cooking all our meals. - $111.65
7:45 - after a little sunset walk we head back to the car and drive home. S falls asleep on the drive back then wakes up when we get home with no intention of falling back to sleep easily cool cool cool cool cool cool.
10 - T and I watch The Righteous Gemstones (I forking love Danny McBride and Adam Devine) then head to bed earlier than usual.
Total - $255.26
Day 5
8:15 - Wake up and eat breakfast of overnight oats T prepped last night. I’m driving him to work today since I have an appointment this morning. We only have one car so usually I drive him once or twice a week to run errands or go to appointments. I don’t have a lot of time to get us ready so I throw on a black jumpsuit and skip makeup.
9:15 - Out the door! Traffic is ok today and I only get T to work a few minutes late but I feel really bad about it.
10:15 - I have some time to kill before my appointment so I take S to a nearby park to play.
11 - Appointment time! Its a follow up dermatologist appt, I pay the copay then schedule another follow up for next month booo. - $70
11:45 - As a little treat and against my better judgement I take S to my fave nearby coffee shop. I really need to quit these coffee purchases, I’ve scaled back a lot since we moved but sometimes when it’s busy and stressful I just can’t help it. I get an iced hazelnut oat milk latte and S gets an apple juice. We stop into a thrift store next door looking for pants for S (why to kids outgrow clothes so fast like I swear I just bought him new clothes!) and I find a really amazing jacket that’s just a bit too small so I pass on it then have regrets. Oh well I really didn’t need it! - $12.50
12:30 - I stop to get gas on the way home. Usually we only have to fill up once a week but our weekend trip used up quite a bit. - $35.80
1:30 - Finally home. I make S lunch of pbj, a banana and pretzels. I'm not really hungry so I just snack on some pretzels. I try to get some work done but get distracted by looking up recipes and writing a grocery list.
2:30 - We head out to run to Trader Joe’s. I haven’t been in a while and am actually excited to grocery shop! When we get in the car I realize it desperately needs a wash, so we head to a drive through car wash first. I’ll be honest, drive through car washes terrify me but no one yells at me this time and the car doesn’t get scratched. I would’ve gone to hand wash place but its literally 102 out and I don’t want to wait in the sun with S. $12
3:00 - Ok now we’re off to TJ’s! I of course get way more then planned and spend a lot more than I wanted but these groceries will last us for a while! Also my husband has been having some stomach issues so I buy some specialty things for him (he’s ok but needed to change his diet, too much spicy food I guess!). We get - buns, blueberries, chickenless tenders, hard kombucha, raspberries, pasta sauce, pepperoni pizzas, trail mix, ginger beer, cold brew, bananas, veggie burgers, peanut butter x2, tortilla chips, fried rice, cereal, granola bars, waffle cones, cherry tomatoes, yogurt smoothies, kefir, frozen soft pretzels, salmon, cucumbers, turkey apple sandwich, cinnamon cookies, guacamole, salad dressing, tofu, Caesar salad, avocado tzatziki dip, sesame salad kit, chopped salad kit, stir fry veggie kit, apples, potatoes, avocados, hummus, aloe juice and 6 gallons of water. I hate having to buy water but our tap water isn’t safe to drink and even with a sink filter and a brita pitcher it still tastes really bad. - $186.16
5:30 - Home and finally get all the groceries unloaded after several trips up and down the stairs. Totally counting this as my workout for the day! Im really hungry so I heat up a leftover taco from the other day and S has a yogurt smoothie and chips and guac. I try to get a little more work done then check in with T on what time we should pick him up. He says it’ll be late again, the office is ordering in dinner. They offer to order food for S and I so we can eat while we wait for him and I’m not going to turn down free food! I order a chicken sandwich and side salad and a lemonade for S and I to share.
6:30 - As usual it takes me approximately twelve years to leave the house. Had to feed the kitties, start the dishwasher, find my purse and right as we’re about to leave I realize we are totally and completely out of wipes. Looks like I’m going to need to run to Target. We get to target 5 minutes before the pharmacy closes and I remember to pick up the prescription the dermatologist called in earlier before it closes. ($20) I am on a roll and remember to grab those garbage bags I forgot the other day, plus pumpkin and oat milk which I couldn’t find at TJ’s earlier. And the wipes. Then I run around Target chasing S like a crazy person because he wouldn’t sit in a cart.($25.55) - $45.55
8 - Made it out of Target and to the office in one piece! Dinner is waiting when we get there and I inhale the sandwich. S refuses to eat anything but cheez-its. We hang out for a while until T wraps up and is good to leave around 9:20.
10 - S fell asleep on the drive home and I am positive he’ll wake up hungry when we get inside but amazingly he stays asleep and I’m able to change him and brush his teeth while he sleeps! Mom win! T and I watch the new Dave Chappelle special on Netflix and cry from laughing so hard. Then we game for a bit together before doing the usual nighttime routine and heading to bed.
Total - $362.01
Day 6
8:30 - S wakes me up by screaming for a popsicle. He even manages to drag a stool to the freezer and get one out himself while I’m in the bathroom. Nope sorry dude. I narrowly escape an epic meltdown because he decides he’d rather have tomatoes. Ok then. T and I have more overnight oats while S has a granola bar, tomatoes, trail mix and a yogurt smoothie.
9:15 - T leaves for work and I finally start getting some feedback on the project I’ve been working on. I take my coffee to the computer and let S set up a little picnic in the room with me so he doesn’t try to feed his food to kitty. She will eat anything offered to her or any food left out.
11:20 - Ok I should probably get dressed now. Today marks the beginning of my favorite season - pumpkin spice season! Yes I’m basic af we’ve already established that. I put on a pumpkin spice latte shirt and some shorts because its forever summer. Not sure if I should walk to Starbucks later in the heat or order a PSL on Uber Eats. Because there’s no way I’m not getting a PSL today!
12:30 - In the time that it took for me to get dressed S managed to absolutely destroy the house. I have a bit of breakdown and go cry in the bathroom. It’s hard being a mom and working and keeping the house in order and today I feel like I just can’t do anything. I give in and Uber Eats some Starbucks. I order a venti Pumpkin Spice cold brew, pumpkin muffin and sausage sandwich for S. - $19.23
1:30 - After eating we play legos for a while and then I decide since he really likes making messes he can help clean out the office/playroom closet. He has a great time pulling everything out and I get way too emotional looking at all his tiny baby clothes.
4:30 - I should probably get some more work done on this project. I set S up with some paints and art to do while I work.
6 - Got a lot done and I’m feeling pretty accomplished work wise! Everything else wise - not so much. Pretty sure I needed to marinate salmon for dinner a few hours ago. Oh well. I try to do the majority of housework and cooking since my husband is at work all day but trying to do everything every day leaves me pretty burnt out. Hopefully I can get some alone time or something later. I wish I had more friends. Or that my cats could talk to me. Pour myself a glass of wine cuz it’s been a day.
8 - T calls letting me know he’s heading home, yay! I made some leftover pizza for S but there isn’t enough for us, so I throw some waffle fries in the oven and make the cowboy veggie burgers I bought at TJ’s yesterday. They are a winner!
9 - S falls asleep shortly after T get home. We binge some Evangelion then game together for a bit, get a little frisky and have sex before crashing in bed around 12.
Total - $19.23
Day 7
8:30 - Snooze the alarm twice then drag myself out of bed. S ended up in bed with us again and T is a little grumpy about it (how does someone so little take up so much damn room in the bed?). Cereal and berries and cold brew for breakfast today.
9:15 - T heads to work and S and I do some craft projects and painting. I’ll admit I’m not a Pinterest-y arts and crafts mom and our art supply selection isn’t the best, but we have fun. Going to make today a better day than yesterday!
10:30 - I’ve been slacking on working out this week and its been so hot I haven’t really wanted to run. But it’s not too bad right now and if we hurry we can squeeze in a run before its unreasonably hot. I’d try to get up earlier and run but a) I’m not a morning person despite my best efforts and b) I don’t want to give up time in the morning before T goes to work. I dig through the laundry (remember all that laundry I did a few days ago? Yeah I never put it away) to find some workout shorts and an old tank top.
11:15 - After an emergency bath (paint everywhere!) we head out for a run! I am by no means a good runner but I like(!?!) it because it helps my anxiety and I love being outside. We do a 4 mile loop stopping at a playground then having a picnic. I only ran maybe half that distance and intervals.
1:30 - Finally home and very sweaty and tired. I hop in the shower and S decides to join in and pretends to be pirate. We keep up the pirate game after were done and I find us some pretend pirate swords to sword fight with. Then I just have to put on the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack and we play pirates until we get hungry. S asks to watch the Pirate movie with lunch (fruit and veggie smoothies + pbj for S and half of the southwest salad from TJs for me) and I cave because it was my favorite movie growing up and rent it on Amazon Prime for us to watch. - $3.99
4 - We never finished the movie because S got bored like 30 mins into it and wanted to play cars. I remember to marinate that salmon I meant to cook yesterday and then spend too long googling how to tell is salmon is still fresh (it just smelled really fishy but like sushi level fishy not gross expired fishy). I am not v good at cooking meats/fish. The HelloFresh box I ordered the other day is delivered and now I feel dumb for not freezing the salmon so we could make one of these recipes for dinner. Oh well.
5:30 - I get an email from the apt office saying I have a package for pickup so we run over and naturally its a heavy package (kitty litter). I swear the heaviest and bulkiest packages always get delivered to the office and I have to drag them back up the stairs. I also got the shirt I ordered from Target. Can’t wait to wear it! I love graphic tees, I’m basically 15 at heart.
6 - oops I forgot I needed to wash the bedding. I get that going but there’s no hope for the duvet washing and drying before bed. At least we have about 300 different throw blankets we can use.
6:10 - Shit I haven’t done any work at all today. I’m not required to since I set my own hours unless I’m on deadline, but I try to log a few hours each day cuz I gotta make that money honey.
7:15 - I get an hour of work in before stopping to clean up the kitchen to start dinner prep. Ugh Why are we not as self cleaning kitchens yet?
8 - As I’m cutting up potatoes to cook with the salmon, S informs me he has a poopy diaper. But not just a diaper, it’s all over his clothes too. FML. I throw the clothes in the wash and as I turn around from the laundry machine I see the kitty puke up her dinner then try to eat it. I can’t make this shit up. I clean that up, pour a big glass of wine and finish cutting the potatoes without having a mental breakdown.
9 - T is home! We eat dinner, the salmon turned out delicious and so did the potatoes. We put S to bed then game together for a bit. I pass out around 11 and then get up and do my nighttime routine as T gets in bed.
Total - $3.99
At the end of each day please tally up your daily expenses. Then at the end of your diary please tally up all expenses in the following categories:
Food + Drink - $553.38
Fun / Entertainment -$45.94
Home + Health - $90
Clothes + Beauty - $245.71
Transport (gas) - $76.80
Other (parking+car wash) - $24
GRAND TOTAL - $1,035.83
Lastly, reflect on your diary! This week was definitely more expensive and busier week. Between the day trip, date night and appointment we definitely spent more than usual. We don't go out to eat or go the mall very often so these were splurges for us. And since it's the last few weeks of summer and we didn't take a vacation we justified spending more than usual on a day trip. I definitely need to cut back on spending money on coffee! My husband doesn't usually spend any money during the week and he packs his lunch most days. So aside from the gas he didn't spend any money while at work. I know it may seem like we spend a lot, please don't judge too much! We aren't planning on buying a house any time soon and with work getting busy it's important for us to treat ourselves and son a little because we work hard. Though once we make good progress paying off our debt we will contribute more to savings and retirement!
