Please help me find my type

Hi all! First off, thank you for taking the time to read this. I've been struggling to find the correct type for me lately (I guess a lot of us have been there). Tests do not seem to be very consistent, mostly giving me ENFJ, but ESFJ, INFJ, or ENFP as well. Maybe you guys can help me draw the final conclusion :). In the mean time I'll continue learning about mbti to help someone else in the future.

• How old are you? What's your gender? Give us a general description of yourself.

I'm a 22 years old Dutch girl.

• Is there a medical diagnosis that may impact your mental stability somehow?

I seriously doubt it. I have been struggling with PTSD in the last two years, but I think I'm doing really well now.

• Describe your upbringing. Did it have any kind of religious or structured influence? How did you respond to it?

I was raised in a really nice family. I have three brothers, all older than me (28, 30 and 32). My parents used to be quite religious back in the days, dragging me and my brothers to church every sunday, reading the bible after dinner, stuff like that. I never really wanted to go, and when the time came when my parents wanted me to go to a church group that was hosted every monday evening, I joined a volleyball team which luckily for me trained every monday during church group. I am not religious now. I appreciate the values my parents taught me though, like treating everyone with love and respect.

Nowadays, my parents are divorced. My mother eased up on the religion quite a bit, but my father has been going a bit in all directions since then (by alsmost dropping it completely to becoming even more religious than he used to be). Them divorcing was not a really big deal for me, since from an early age I knew that it was not a matter of if they would get divorced, but more a matter of when they would. In the beginning I tried dividing my time between them completely equally, until the relationship with my father went bad. Now I do not see him at all, which is really sad and weird for me since I never get in fights (friends or family) and I love my family very deeply. I have a very close relationship with my mother and three brothers.

• What do you do as a job or as a career (if you have one)? Do you like it? Why or why not?

I'm now doing my MSc in plant sciences, specialisation entomology and pathology. I always really enjoyed my studies. I think I like it so much because I can have a direct impact on the world with this, even though it might be small. I research better ways to protect plants from pests, which helps in the world food problem and preservation of biodiversity. Plants are everywhere around us and the interactions they have with their environment are beyond interesting to me. Everything is not as simple as it seems on first sight, and there are a lot of factors determining a final plant response.

• If you had to spend an entire weekend by yourself, how would you feel? Would you feel lonely or refreshed?

I would feel lonely. I appreciate my alone time, and I need it quite a lot since I find my life quite busy, but half a day or a day is more than enough. I would feel drained and lonely after a whole weekend by myself.

• What kinds of activities do you prefer? Do you like, and are you good at sports? Do you enjoy any other outdoor or indoor activities?

When I was a child I joined the girl scouts, played the clarinet and took dancing lessons. These were all kind of pre-determined activities by my parents though. I did not really like the scouts or playing the clarinet all that much, but I am glad I played for a while since it is great for general development. When I was 13/14 and was allowed to make my own decisions, I dropped everything and joined a volleyball team. I greatly enjoyed that, even though I never really reached a high level. I enjoyed the team dynamic and working together. I was mostly the first to cheer/yell and I have been captain for a while. I had to drop volleyball due to an injury though. Now I am mountainbiking and running, all in the company of good friends most of the time. Even though I miss volleyball greatly, these two sports are also nice to do and have their own charm. The great part is that you can do both outside in nature.

As for activities with friends, I have two major friend groups: one with 4 female friends from high school and one larger group I helped form in the first year of my BSc. With the highschool group we mostly go out in the evening for drinks, sometimes go out. I enjoy nights where we go pooling together the most. Two of the friends I also see separately as well. What we do then ranges from just watching movies, going out for lunch, mountainbiking, playing board games, stuff like that. With the larger friend group we have a friend evening every wednesday were we eat together and play board games. We also do other things like go on holiday together, or some people (including me) like to play DnD rougly two times a month. I mostly organise other activites, like going to the zoo, go pooling, seeing a comedian... This group would not really go out clubbing.

When I am on my own, I like to watch some netflix, read, try my hand on the ukulele or play games (computer or nintendo). My favourite game is Zelda Breath of the Wild, but I really like Pokémon, other Zeldas, Borderlands, Tomb Raider, Metroid, the Sims and Left 4 Dead as well. The thing about Left for Dead though is that I always play it together with my brothers, which is always a lot of fun.

• How curious are you? Do you have more ideas then you can execute? What are your curiosities about? What are your ideas about - is it environmental or conceptual, and can you please elaborate?

Difficult question, especially the environmental conceptual thing I do not completely understand (probably due to the fact that English is not my mother tongue) but I'll just write some stuff down. In the field of plant sciences, especially in my specialisation I can be very curious. I really want to know how plant processes and interactions work and why, and how we can use it to make the world better. I also can get really into new things that peak my interest (applicable to skills, theories), like mbti (but it also happened with cg method, when I need a new laptop/bike/..., running, ukulele..). I'm rather perfectionistic, and I can get a bit obsessed with it, wanting to know not just the surface but understand it completely and execute it as good as possible.

• Would you enjoy taking on a leadership position? Do you think you would be good at it? What would your leadership style be?

I do not think so, I do not see myself as a leader. Sometimes it happens a bit organically, like with the formation of the friend group, being team captain, sometimes in group work. However I am not a very dominant person, and actually quite self conscious. When there someone around with more social skills and a more dominant aura, they easily take the lead (unless they turn out to be just dominant and do not really know what they are talking about, mostly in group work).

• Are you coordinated? Why do you feel as if you are or are not? Do you enjoy working with your hands in some form? Describe your activity?

Yes I believe I am. At least I'm not really clumsy, I never sucked (or excelled) at sports. When I was a teen I used to paint my nails with very small details (tiny paintings) and that turned out pretty well, I guess you need some coordination for that. However I'm sure I'm in the middle here, there are probably way more coordinated people than me out there.

• Are you artistic? If yes, describe your art? If you are not particular artistic but can appreciate art please likewise describe what forums of art you enjoy. Please explain your answer.

Ehh medium. The nail art thing I just mentioned was quite creative, I liked art class a lot in high school and now I play some music but really want to learn how to knit/sow/ stuff like that. For the birthday of my friend I'm going to paint a DnD mini myself. I can be moved by art, both by beautiful landscapes as by painters who show something unique (unique situation, unique art style, unique combination of colours). Here too though, there are people out there with a much greater passion and talent for art than me.

• What's your opinion about the past, present, and future? How do you deal with them?

I'm not that occupied with the past. You can learn definitely learn from it, but I try not to get obsessed with stuff you cannot change anymore anyhow. It matters now, who you are now and who you're gonna be. Try to be the best version of yourself for both yourself and the people around you. I try to think for the long term.

• How do you act when others request your help to do something (anything)? If you would decide to help them, why would you do so?

If it is within my power to help them then I will. Otherwise I'll try to think with them who else might be able to. I think it is important to show kindness to the world, and one good deed somewhere will lead to another and another. You cannot help everyone but I try to do my piece.

• Do you need logical consistency in your life?

Logic is important. It is not however the only important thing.

• How important is efficiency and productivity to you?

I can get a bit annoyed if I see things are progressing slowly while they could easily be more efficient. I think you could say they are quite important to me. If you do things more productively you have more time to do the things that matter.

• Do you control others, even if indirectly? How and why do you do that?

I hope not. Everyone is their own person and should make their own decisions.

• What are your hobbies? Why do you like them?

I think I covered this somewhere in all my rambling already.

• What is your learning style? What kind of learning environments do you struggle with most? Why do you like/struggle with these learning styles? Do you prefer classes involving memorization, logic, creativity, or your physical senses?

I really like doing my own research more than following courses. When I was doing my BSc thesis I immediately felt like I was learning so much more and much more easily than I would have when following a course. English I learned mostly from playing games and watching movies. Learning is not really something I struggle with in general, but I learn best using logic and creativity I think.

• How good are you at strategizing? Do you easily break up projects into manageable tasks? Or do you have a tendency to wing projects and improvise as you go?

I always make a fairly good planning and stick to it, but it might change a bit as I go. I think both a good planning and being able to adapt are important.

• What are your aspirations in life, professionally and personally?

Professionally, I think I'll do a PHD after my MSc. I want to research plant-pest/pathogen interactions and hopefully contribute to something that will make a change for the better. Personally, I try to be kindhearted and open-minded. I want to see the world, see different cultures and understand where we are all coming from.

• What are your fears? What makes you uncomfortable? What do you hate? Why?

I fear to loose loved ones, be alone. I get uncomfortable by things that are in my mind unfair/unjust, unkind, hateful or judgemental. At those moments I try to see why someone is being like that, I mean I do not believe anyone is a dick just for the fun of it, but I have some progress to make here.

• What do the "highs" in your life look like?

Having fun with my family or friends, when everyone is having a good time.

• What do the "lows" in your life look like?

The time when I was suffering most from PTSD. I did not see the good in people anymore.

• How attached are you to reality? Do you daydream often, or do you pay attention to what's around you? If you do daydream, are you aware of your surroundings while you do so?

Especially during lectures I tend to space out. It can be quite annoying, especially when I am tired and even the daydream gets lost to me. Sometimes it can be useful though and yield sudden insights.

• Imagine you are alone in a blank, empty room. There is nothing for you to do and no one to talk to. What do you think about?

How to get out. Otherwise probably thinking over how interactions work (humans and plants), why we are the way we are and do the things we do.

• How long do you take to make an important decision? And do you change your mind once you've made it?

It can be either very impulsive or thought over waaaay to much. Depends a bit on the importance I guess. I rarely change my mind though.

• How long do you take to process your emotions? How important are emotions in your life?

Long. I believe I am fairly emotional, and I value them as well, both in myself as well as in others. Logic is nice but sometimes the irrational emotions can tell you a lot, yield new insights about a person or a situation.

• Do you ever catch yourself agreeing with others just to appease them and keep the conversation going? How often? Why?

Sometimes. Depends a little. Sometimes I believe it is better to keep the harmony, especially when the matter is not that important. Mostly I will not flat out agree in those situations, but dance around it a little and change the subject. What I think is not always important. I will not lie when directly asked. However, I can be quite passionate about the things that matter to me and will participate in discussion or debate in those cases.

• Do you break rules often? Do you think authority should be challenged, or that they know better? If you do break rules, why?

No I do not break rules often. I believe authority should be challenged when you feel they are wrong or unjust, but I believe you should try to make your change in a good way, without violence. E.g. join politics yourself, organise a protest, talk to people.

Whoo this was a lot of text. I have a lot of respect for you if you read it all. Thank you for taking the time out of your day for me!
