[SPOILER]Going out with a whimper, like a weak candle flame

Note: If you love the game and the ending maybe you wont like what I have to say.

I hate The Force Awakens. Because they chose the easy route. They followed the first Star Wars movie but made it "bigger and better" because they knew what works and wanted to cash in. They also knew that trying something different does not always lead to success.

I expected the Telltale writers left to finish this project would not go the same route. After all this is the last episode, right?(I guess not, more on that later). There was no hurry to make a buck or start a franchise. Well, I was wrong. And before you start saying how Clementine did not turn out like Lee in season 1 - it might even be worse honestly.

Ok, first off the good things

- I was right. After killing Lilly I was sure james would turn into an antagonist in some way. Even better, you can call him out on his "philosophy" and change his mind. Liked that. Didn't like how you cant give him the torch but whatever, guess both of his hands were occupied, haha. Also getting to play as Aj, something I again predicted, happened a bit earlier than expected. Still, called it!

- I was wrong. So Clementine cant go back, which was addressed in a timely flashback. Ok, I am glad they did that, the throwaway line about Richmond does show that they at least care about continuity. Although it does mean nothing we did in season 3 mattered, heh. Also we finally learned about the wounded horse and that to me was very important.

- There is a section where you can run directly past the zombies without fighting them which is EXACTLY how the Romero zombies operate. Of course they made them into a threat again shortly afterwards, whatever. Was a nice touch.

- Axes axes axes, finally the cover art for the first episode was acknowledged and we got axes.

- Tenn did something, so did Violet, so did Louis. Every time they do something you gotta give them points.

- Clementine crawling on all fours. I know at least one person who considers this a good thing unfortunately.

- Dirty nose, I am sure at least someone would think that was racist, kek.

- And errrrrrrr, I am hard pressed to think of anything else.

Now, onto the negatives. There are three of them - Choices don't matter as always, No emotional impact, Minnie(ughhhhhhh).

Choices don't matter as always

Well, what did you expect? I mean as a final episode there at least should be some big ones, right? None I could find. It doesn't matter how antagonistic you were towards your "classmates" or how crazy you turned Aj into. You both are in the school having some great time. Whatever.

Its not even the ending that is a disappointment, there was a moment inside the cave where you have to turn Aj to the light side and there was not a single "I like him the way he is" line. What, you can kill, torture and maim people in front of him, tell him how everything he does is correct and he has to in fact be tough as nails to survive then act surprised and try to pull back? This to me means that "yo, those choices were the wrong ones, yes, you were an asshole and no, in the end you are both living happily at that death trap called Super Honeypot School or something, the end". I DID NOT WANT TO BE THERE! Hell, remember season 2 where you could say eff it to both Kenny and jane? Nope, cant stop the happy ending, cant give you something different. Cant even be allowed to make mistakes.

What a shame. No wonder the last choice reel was so short, apart from the Aj one. So when is this Aj game gonna come? My bet is in 2021. There is a reason they changed the UI right before the end. Floating choices, the future of Walking Dead!

No emotional impact

Are they actively lacking imagination? Lets keep this short and straight to the point, they copied the season 1 ending right down to the look both Clementine and Lee sport before they die(or did they, har har). Then turn completely around and show that no, only her leg was cut off. Lets not talk about the logistics of Clementine with one foot without crutches making it out alive, they don't want to talk about it either. Apparently she is stronger physically than Lee. He gets his arm cut off, goes through trials the same way she does and eventually succumbs to his injury in what is mostly referred to dying from exhaustion and the side effects of the bite. She goes through the same process but even worse. She has all the signs of the poison spreading through her entire body and turning. But no, cut off the leg below the knee and she is fine, she could also exert herself enough to go to that school and live happily after? Give me a break.

So they pull off a double. Going for the first season ending then laughing it off and reversing it. Grats, I feel so much better now that I know you are willing to break your own rules to give us the cheesiest possible outcome. The only feelings I felt were "come on, let it end, I want to get this over with" .

The only interesting thing I saw was that Violet and Louis can die instead of Tenn. Since I never went for a romance maybe your romantic interest dies instead of him and this is the emotional impact? If thats the case I take some of what I said back, although I don't feel like replaying the game and going for either of them, waste of time.

Minnie

If you thought they lacked imagination before this will make you 100% certain. Lets see, she gets bitten in the arm, in the neck, gets shot, gets swarmed by zombies, somehow conveniently gets to the bridge with the zombies behind her like her own personal horde, shoots a gun(ok, lets assume that they didn't attack her because she was covered in guts, why would they not do that once she shoots the gun multiple times?), finally gets down after the zombies attack her. Oh, so they did after all, even though they already attacked her once and should have attacked her at least five more times while she was shooting? So nice of them, guess on the beach they were simply giving her love bites, pretending you know.

If this sounds too complicated to you no worries, you are supposed to turn off your brain during all this. That sequence was pathetic. With Lily and james out of the way there was no other credible villain to dug out so this is who they went with. If you thought Clementine is a terminator for surviving the virus spreading through her body Minnie must be a frigging greek goddess worthy of Kartos.

And like most of the ridiculousness they didn't even have to do it like this. What was the point of Minnie's "epic" last stand at the beach when she was supposed to show up again and kill someone. Oh, I know, shock value, cause you got nothing else up your sleeve. What was the point of Clementine being shown 100% dying in that barn when you are going to pull the rug and turn it around? Oh, I know, shock value, cause you got nothing else up your sleeve.

See where I am coming from? They wanted the epic, they wanted the nostalgia(heeeeeey its the swing from S1 E2!), they wanted to make us feel good, they didn't want to spend the effort to make it at least coherent, they did not want to respect our choices and most damning of all they didn't even have the balls to kill off "the face" of their franchise.

Sounds like Telltale alright.

I am disappoint.
