Some content that could give Overwatch a refreshing feeling

Hey guys, I’ve been seeing quite a few posts lately about the state of the game regarding how it’s feeling stale, and how players are burned out or bored. Personally, I’ve been feeling the same way for a while now. I’ve been sitting on some ideas and after seeing "The end of Overwatch is near" video posted on FreshNuts, I figured now is a good time to get them out in the open.

An arcade overhaul

Arcade is the best choice for when you’re trying to get away from the stress of competitive, the repetitiveness of quick play, or just when you want to have a fun time. However, with the current state of game modes in the arcade, it can be hard to find that enjoyment that you go there for. Here are some changes I’m suggesting that may give arcade more life:

•FFA All Maps should have a permanent slot in the arcade. We’ve had Chateau and Petra long enough to learn the layouts of them. These single map playlists are just repetitive.

•The All Brawls playlist, my personal favorite, needs to make its glorious return. It’s been gone for too long. Plus, with all the new heroes introduced since then, Blizzard has plenty of opportunities to create new game modes that could add some diversity to the arcade.

If 5 slots in the arcade is as much as Blizzard can handle server wise, that’s fine. Ideally, slots would be allocated for the 5 categories that are most populated. For these categories, I would recommend having FFA, TDM, All Brawls, 1v1, and CTF. I don’t see low gravity being played often, the different 1v1 and 3v3 playlists can be swapped out daily. Mystery Heroes, No Limits, and Total Mayhem could be added to the All Brawls pool.

Hero mastery challenges and animated spray rewards

We all know how awesome the animated top 500 sprays are. I can’t help but be impressed when I see someone equipped with one. Unfortunately, with these sprays restricted to the 500 most qualified players, most players don’t have the time nor skill to grind and attain an amazing trophy for themselves. In order to open up an opportunity to allow lower skilled players to earn epic animated sprays, I propose an introduction of animated sprays tied to hero challenges, which could allow more people to obtain a similar sense of accomplishment. Here are some examples of potential challenges:

•Acquire the cute and pixel sprays for a hero

•Play 100 hours across qp, arcade, and competitive as that hero

•Buy the gold gun for that hero

Upon completion of these, you would be awarded that heroes animated spray.

Of course, the showcased sprays are up to Blizzard to decide (if they were to implement something like this). I have faith that their amazing art team would nail it and impress us all.

Overwatch, with its hard focus on the competitive scene and team play, unintentionally creates an environment that is inherently toxic. It is irritatingly common to encounter unsportsmanlike behavior like smurfing, throwing, and malicious team chat. This rampant toxicity spreads like a disease and discourages a lot of players from playing. I believe this to be the reason why PVE events and Archives are perceived so well by the player base. Obviously, Blizzard can’t do PVE events all the time. That’s why I think if these ideas were implemented it would greatly add to the life of Overwatch and make the game worth returning to.
