Hi all,
I’ve just finished Alwa’s Awakening and I just wanted to talk about my experience.
As someone who has been playing games for nearly 25 years, from the days of the SNES I initially bought AA for a bit of a nostalgic jaunt harking back to the 16 bit days.
By the look of it, it seemed like a 2D platforming Zelda with some mild exploration to it. I was drawn in by the lovely art and intriguing world.
What I got was some bastard child of Ghosts and Ghouls and Metroid! Don’t let the cutesie, charming visuals fool you this game is hard as fucking nails! It demands pixel perfect jumps, well planned and executed plans to navigate each screen, punishing enemies who exploit your own movement liabilities and SO MANY INSTANT DEATH traps which riddle the palaces.
The crescendo is the last two dungeons which nearly drove me to tears!
In saying this, I absolutely adored this game, I hardly put it down since I downloaded it and without giving too much away I’m looking forward to going back and collecting all the blue orbs to see if it change anything for the ending. I really enjoyed the challenge of platforming and puzzles over the combat of other ‘Metroidvanias’ which are out at the moment.
Well done Elden Pixels, your labor of love has paid off and I hope you continue to make quality games.
