Hand-on review of Born Pretty Nail Polish

I’ve always loved to keep my nails brightly polished, for nail polish is the perfect element that helps me changing my look in just a few minutes. Yet I’ve never been a huge fan of fingernail polish before, as I find many of them chip too easily with cooking and cleaning after I spent a whole afternoon having a manicure in a nail salon, which usually cost me at least $30.

So, I was quite excited to review the Born Pretty manicure set from AliExpress.

Born Pretty is a store intended to provide each ordinary female, whoever they are, wherever they come from, with the latest fashion items of nail art, make up and outfit, helping them find the best way to dress up, which ultimately push outside their potential beauty to the fullest. Like the name suggests, the polish of Born Pretty is super pretty and reflective, making it unique from other polishes.

Now, let’s see what we got here.

Born Pretty Chameleon 3D Cat Eye Nail Polish

I have to say I adore 3D Cat Eye Nail Polish, presenting versatile metallic gloss with well-blend beautiful undertone. The formula is smooth and easy to apply. In order to distinguish those colors, I tried to put 5 colors on my nails. As suggested on the official site, a black color coat should be applied after the base coat. However, I don’t have a black color nail polish, so, I applied them directly on the base coat. But, yes, I think a black color coat is necessary if you only apply these polish for one coating.

Born Pretty Chameleon 3D Cat Eye Nail Polish Magnetic Aurora Series (each in 6ml)

Without a black color coat, one coating barely showed the Cat Eye effect even though I used the magnet stick for around 30 seconds. However, for two coatings, the beautiful Cat Eye effect is quite noticeable. As you can see, this nail polish gives off glossy and reflective color, making my nails look like gemstones. It's a bit sheer after one coat, but with multi-layered coats, the finish is stunning.

There is one particular thing that I have to mention here is that you’d better to hold the magnet stick until it dries in order to achieve a perfect “Cat Eye” look, because the shiny metal particles can move easily without the magnet stick.

To be honest, I'm crazy about BP-M01 Astral Realm with brownish purple and the touch of copper, which really fits its name! This look isn't necessarily new — there are nail wraps available in the same finish — but there hasn't been a polish that can mimic the look until now. I have to say that I’ve been hunting for such deep shining shades and now the search is over, as I’ve found that the contrast between my skin complexion and the color of the nail polish can emphasize me in an elegant and sensual way.

Note: If you have a milky undertone, you should avoid cold colors. If your blood vessels are close to the skin surface and give it a pinkish undertone, then do not use pink or white polishes.  And any bright color looks good on darker skin.

I got about 5 days of wear (for one coat) before chipping started.

Yet I did not go on well with the brush. It is a bit small that I cannot apply the polish evenly over my nail surface. Again to keep in mind though the nail polish is absolutely stunning, also keep in mind the bottles are tiny.

Born Pretty Nail UV Gel Set

The gel nail polish is different with regular nail polish or nail varnish. The gel nail polish lasts usually a month, which is much longer than nail varnish. One noticeable difference is that gel nail polish has to be kept in a light-proof bottle, as it dries when exposed to light, which is the reason why it needs a LED/UV lamp to help it dry.

Here, from Born Pretty, we got a set of gel nail polish with necessary manicure tools including a LED nail lamp, a dead skin fork, a cuticle pusher, two finger Oil.

As explained before, UV/LED lamp is a necessity if you are going to apply gel nail polish. The one from Born Pretty is very simple to operate. What you need to do is just turn it on, set a drying time (two options available, 30s and 60s), and place your nails in the machine under its drying lights until the timer goes off. When it does, you can safely remove your now dried nails and place your other hand in the machine so it can dry the nails on that hand.

Cuticle pusher is used to help shape the cuticles and push them back off the nails and can make nails appear longer, smoother, and healthier. It includes one curved end for pushing and shaping the cuticle and a sharper end for trimming the cuticle and scraping away dead skin.

I’m quite happy to receive these tools as I’ve been struggling with hangnails for years and need a device like this to take care of hangnails as well as trim cuticles. It also helps me get in hard-to-reach places and corners of fingernails.

Before taking care of cuticles, I would apply a cuticle lotion or oil to soften the cuticles so that the cuticle pusher can then push the skin back more easily and cut off dead skin without leaving behind ragged edges.

After well-preparing your nails, here comes the gel nail polish routine:

1.     Apply Base coat first, which can make polish lasting longer, cure with UV lamp or LED lamp. (Necessary)

2.     Apply first layer of color polish directly, cure with UV lamp for 2 minutes or cure with LED lamp for 60 seconds.

3.     Apply second layer of color polish, cure with UV lamp for 2 minutes or cure with LED lamp for 60 seconds.

4.     Coat with no wipe topcoat, cured by UV lamp or LED lamp.

For these five colors I received, I decided to make some combinations. Hope you like them.

Going through the whole manicure, I’ve been impressed that Born Pretty did not smell bad as regular nail polish. Actually, you can hardly notice the odor.

It is very easy to apply if you follow the instructions, but there is one thing you need to keep in mind that the gel dries very slowly without the lamp. Without the lamp, the gel polish was still wet after around 3 hours, according to our test. So, be patient to follow the instruction step by step.

Verdict

Well, I love these great nail polish from Born Pretty, both Chameleon 3D Cat Eye Nail Polish and Nail UV Gel Set. As it says, women are changeable, and the former is exactly for we changeable women. It is quite interesting to do manicure by yourself, especially applying the cat eye nail polish. The magnet stick allows you design your own special nail pattern and the cat eye effect makes it versatile. For the gel polish set, I have to say it is perfect for people who are new to the gel polish manicure, since it contains everything you need to achieve a long-lasting manicure. So, be sure to keep my results in mind for your next at-home mani-pedi session.
