TLDR; I was offered a job months before I was legally able to work. Now that I’m legal, I may have found a better job. Would I be the asshole if I took the better job despite the patience I got from the first offer people?
I recently graduated from a nail technician program at the local technical college. After graduation, in order to be able to work legally, I needed to take two state exams and be approved for a license. Before I took these exams, I was interviewed at a fancy spa and was offered a job basically on the spot. I told them that I don’t have a license yet, and they told me to just come back as soon as I get it.
I’ve been keeping in touch with the lady who might be my boss, and letting her know when my exams were taken and that kind of thing. I was offered the job in late May/earlyJune, but due to a number of things outside my control (mostly the state dragging their asses on paperwork) I took my exams in July, and my license was only approved yesterday.
This lady and the spa have been very patient with me and very understanding about the situation. However, I recently got another job offer.
There is one major difference between these two places: place A is a spa that does nails sometimes, and only pedicures and basic polish applications/nail painting. place B is strictly a nail salon, and they offer more than just polish and pedicures, including sculptured nails, acrylic/gel, and nail art.
These two places are about the same traveling distance, and I’ll likely be making the same at either one. However, I know I’m going to get bored doing just polish day in and day out at place A, but I feel like I’m obligated to work for them because they have been so patient with me before I’ve even begun to work there.
Would I be the asshole for basically leading place A on, but taking the job I know I’d be happier at?
