What to consider: I have been typed as INTP in most tests that I had taken, and I feel like that could potentially affect my answers. I have been following the MBTI community for quite a while and it's only recently that I have found myself torn between INTP and INFP. I'm not sure how Fi is supposed to behave though. If it's not that, then perhaps my slightly more developed Fe is causing confusion? I am not really one to accidentaly offend people as the description for INTP puts it. I might have a poor perception of self too, I don't rule out that possibility. I also skipped a few questions that I felt could make the post too long or I wasn't sure about. Also, not a native speaker. Please excuse any potential grammar mistakes.
How old are you? What's your gender?
17, female
Is there a medical diagnosis that impact your mental/comportamental stability somehow?
None that I know of, no. Perhaps some mild form of social anxiety, but nothing serious.
Describe your upbringing. Did it have any kind of religious or structured influence? How did you respond to it?
I grew up as a rather shy, reserved, and socially awkward kid. My parents are still together, however their relationship is somewhat strained and they aren't visibly affectionate towards one another. My mom is an emotionally mature ESFJ and my dad is a rather quick-tempered, impulsive ISTP. I must admit, in that regard I am somewhat closer to my mom, whom I can discuss a quite lot of topics freely, whereas my dad is a loner (a trait that I seem to have inherited) and I didn't have much of a chance to get to know him better. I also have an older brother whom I presume to be ESFJ as well. My family is religious, but not outwardly. We used to go to church only about once a year when I was little. As of 4-5 years I stuck with the "agnostic" label, though.
What do you do as a job or as a career (if you have one)? Do you like it? Why or why not?
I'm currently still in highschool, but I want to get a career into scientific research.
If you need to take a test/exam for class, how to you study/prepare/approach it?
When studying, I try to make logical connections and visualise. I personally don't do well with mindless memorising. I take my time, have frequent brakes and sometimes even get excited about studying something else instead and switching to that temporarily. I usually don't get too nervous, unless it's a difficult test that could affect my overall grade substantially.
If you had to spend an entire weekend by yourself, how would you feel? Would you feel lonely or refreshed?
That is generally how I spend my weekends and while I enjoy being alone, I sometimes get bored and need someone to discuss ideas with. I believe that hearing different points of view is important when refining yours.
What is your relation with movement and your surroundings? For instance do you prefer a sport or outdoors event? If an outdoors event what is it? And why? If not what type of activities do you tend to engage i?
Not a fan of sports, but I do enjoy taking walks so that I can organize my thoughts . I'm usually found reading or browsing the internet.
How curious are you? Do you have more ideas then you can execute? What are your curiosities about? What are your ideas about - is it environmental or conceptual, and can you please elaborate?
I see myself as a curious individual. I'm interested in a plethora of things, ranging from science to art, philosophy, psychology etc. My ideas can be both environmental and conceptual in nature. I think the questions that I mostly ask myself are "How does thing work and why?"( "Why?" especially). I demand very thorough responses to my questions though, as I usually want to get to the very bottom of things. My inquisitiveness is something that I tend to pride myself on.
Would you enjoy taking on a leadership position? Do you think you would be good at it? What would your leadership style be?
I don't think I would enjoy taking a leadership position. If I were to be a leader however, I would probably take a relaxed approach to it and would ask the people that I am supposedly leading what they think about the decisions that I intend on taking.
Are you coordinated? Why do you feel as if you are or are not? Do you enjoy working with your hands in some form? Describe your activity?
More or less. I can be both clumsy or surprisingly coordinated. I'm clumsy especially when it comes to moving your entire body such as in sports and dancing, but I have good hand coordination. I enjoy DIY projects ( admittedly more so when I was a kid than now).
Are you artistic? If yes, describe your art? If you are not particular artistic but can appreciate art please likewise describe what forums of art you enjoy. Please explain your answer.
I wouldn't consider myself artistic per se. I can draw and sing decently, but never really bothered to do much about that. I am fond of art, though. The question says "forums", but I think it asks for forms. Music is the form of art that I mostly expose myself to. I can enjoy music from all kinds of genres. As of late, I tend to switch between instrumental jazz and 80s japanese city pop though. If I had to guess I would say nostalgia plays a part in choosing the music that I listen to, yet the songs I seem to be drawn to are from periods I wasn't even alive in. I also have great appreciation for paintings and architecture, but I tend to cathegorize them according to history and artistic movements.
What's your opinion about the past, present, and future? How do you deal with them?
Hmm, I am both excited and intimidated by the future. I acknowledge the fact that I am young and in that regard I haven't lost the drive to pursue my interests just yet. I tend not to dwell to much on the past. I may rethink conversations, things I have said, done, arguments in a debate etc. but only so that I could understand what I would do differently now. As for the present... I tend to almost ignore it, really.
How do you act when others request your help to do something (anything)?
If I am not visibly busy, most of the time I would go ahead and help.
Do you need logical consistency in your life?
I think I do, actually. I remember one of my friends asking " Does EVERYTHING have to make sense to you?". It pretty much does. I usually try to make sense of things myself, though.
How important is efficiency and productivity to you?
It's something that I admire, but I don't think I'm very good at. I tend to jump from one thing to another, ask a lot of (maybe to others) unecessary questions and work in bursts of energy rather than follow through with a project.
Do you control others, even if indirectly? How and why do you do that? No. I can see the use when others explain why they do it, but in my case I never really needed to be controlling.
How do you gather information? What drives you to do so? I usually gather it by reading various articles on the internet or books, videos on youtube ( from short and straightforward videos to entire lectures) and sometimes by talking to other people. I was at some point afraid that the only reason I keep people in my life is "to suck them out of information". I don't exactly know what drives me to do so. I simply enjoy doing it. I think one can develop his ideas and understanding of the world by doing so, come to think of it.
What's important to you?
This is a somewhat difficult question. I'm not sure as of now. Well, I don't think I am. I suppose aquiring knowledge is important to me. Also, despite it not being in my top priorities, I think that being understanding and even perhaps outwardly kind is something to consider.
What are your aspirations?
I would really like to be able to make an important discovery, invention or at least bring some sort of contribution to the scientific field.
What are your fears?
Failure is a big one, mediocrity, being considered incompetent, loneliness due to detachment, dying without having accomplished anything.
What makes you uncomfortable?
Social situations, filth ( slightly germaphobic, despite being messy), being placed in front of many people (suppose it still counts as a social situation, though)
What do you hate?
Condescendence, ignorance, close-mindedness and being yelled also. I perceive the latter as nails dragged on a blackboard.
What do the "highs" in your life look like?
Since I'm still in school they're usually related to academic performances. Scoring high in a competition, being acknowledged by teachers for a genuine interest in studying independently and so on. Also solving all kinds problems is really satisfying, or managing to grasp a difficult concept.
What do the "lows" in your life look like?
Feeling stupid, not being able to fulfill expectations, failures of different kinds.
How attached are you to reality? Do you daydream often, or do you pay attention to what's around you? If you do daydream, are you aware of your surroundings while you do so?
Not too attached. The problem with "daydreaming" however is that it almost implies an inner fantasy world in which one retreats to, and I'm not sure if that's an accurate description of my thought process while detaching from the outside world. The situations in which I imagine myself are, despite based on imagination, quite realistic in nature. I am someone to miss something in front of me while being deep in thought, though.
Imagine you are alone in a blank, empty room. There is nothing for you to do and no one to talk to. What do you think about?
I would probably do things such as going over some things that I studied by myself in order to check if I grasped them well enough, have debates in my head, go over previous conversations I have had with people in order to think of alternate responses, imagine new conversations ( in fact, I figured that while trying to analyze and understand an idea or a concept, I often imagine myself trying to explain it to someone else).
How long do you take to make an important decision? And do you change your mind once you've made it?
I can take a long time to make decisions I think. And even if I made them, I still rethink them after. If I see a better opportunity arise, I don't mind changing.
How long do you take to process your emotions?
Not sure. I usually bottle them up I think. Stronger ones especially. I don't really want to let feelings cloud my judgement. I am prone to burst into tears when stressed though. It happened in class a few times. What's funny is that I can get worked up over things that people might consider meaningless ( a bad test for a subject that I actually care about such as math or physics, because of my fear of failure, or being put in an embarrassing position). The way I deal with my emotions is by trying to find the cause and validity of them, or by crying, as I mentioned.
Do you ever catch yourself agreeing with others just to appease them and keep the conversation going? How often?
I do it more with strangers than people whom I am close to. If I disagree, I will in many cases present my opinion in a more diplomatic manner. When I am too lazy to do so however, I don't mind just agreeing for the moment and developing the argument internally instead. Do you break rules often? Do you think authority should be challenged, or that they know better? If you do break rules, why would you?
I only break rules when I consider them unecessary. I do question them and their purpose, but most of the time I will obey so as not to draw attention or cause conflicts
